World-Class Glamping at The Resort at Paws Up

The Resort at Paws Up Blackfoot River, Montana Glamping, The Taste SF

We spent the past few days glamping in Montana at The Resort at Paws Up for their Cookbook Live: Smoke and Around the Fire weekend. Montana is one of our favorite places in the United States and it’s been far too long since we had been back. We were last there almost ten years ago, on our honeymoon near Bozeman, so we were thrilled to be back.

The Resort at Paws Up is located on a 37,000 acre working cattle ranch about 40 minutes from Missoula. Paws Up was the first glamping destination, and boasts the largest and most luxurious glamping tents in North America. In addition to its numerous camps located around the ranch, the resort also offers fully-furnished homes overlooking the stunning plain that runs through the center of the property. We strongly suggest staying in a camp. There’s nothing like falling asleep to the sound of the legendary Blackfoot River rushing by and owls calling throughout the night, then waking up to coffee and breakfast by the fire at the camp pavilion.

On our last visit to Montana, we were ready to fly fish and enjoy the outdoors, but the winter had run especially long  (it snowed in June!) and the rivers were still surging from the snow pack melting. This time around, we had an amazing time fishing the Blackfoot River. We caught (and released) seven fish, including Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout, and Whitefish. Having a knowledgeable guide from the Resort was invaluable.

The Resort at Paws Up is known for its outdoor activities. Scott Schaefer, the special events manger at the Resort explained that they typically try to introduce a new activity every year. Guests can do everything from sporting activities like fly fishing on the Blackfoot river, shooting clays, rounding up steer in a cattle drive, and archery to relaxing massages at the spa or aviation activities like hot air balloon rides and helicopter tours of Glacier National Park.

Over the past few years, the resort has focused on expanding its culinary experiences. We had the opportunity to talk with him about some amazing upcoming programs that are not to be missed. Stay tuned over the next week as we bring you exclusive coverage of the Cookbook Live: Smoke and Around the Fire weekend and the amazing chefs behind the books. Don’t miss the Maple-Glazed Carrots with Chèvre and Truffle-Salt Pistachios.
