When it comes to cocktails, it doesn’t get much simpler than a classic vodka tonic. It’s a great option for poolside sipping on a hot summer day.

With really simple recipes like a vodka tonic, the quality of ingredients is critical. Use a good vodka and a good tonic water. We like to use this tonic water. For vodka, it depends on the situation. Our favorites for a crisp, refreshing vodka tonic on a hot day would be Absolut or Grey Goose. For evening cocktails we would typically lean toward Hangar 1 or Ketel One. We always garnish our vodka tonic with a lime wedge.

We try to avoid using plastic barware when at all possible. We’re definitely guilty of sneaking glassware into the pool (and even champagne flutes into a hot tub). We’ve been surprised with the options for outdoor barware showing up in stores lately. We recently found these and immediately bought a set. Instructions
  1. Cut limes into wedges.
  2. Pour 2 oz vodka into a large tumbler or old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Top with tonic water. Garnish with lime wedge and serve.
