We wanted to share one of our go-to spots. The Fremont Diner has always been one of our favorite brunch restaurants in the Bay Area, and we always make an effort to stop by when we head up to wine country on the Marin side. The food is classic homestyle “diner” fare , but way better. It’s taken to the next level with fresh local and seasonal ingredients.
Our go-to is the Nashville style hot fried chicken “so hot it will set a cheatin’ man straight.” Try it with syrup! Last time we went, our friends Stacy, Ty, and Kelly, we had an order of shrimp and grits, the “Hangtown Fry” (scrambled eggs with fried oysters, arugula, potatoes, remoulade, and bacon), and Nashville fried chicken and waffles all around. We topped it off with their flaky biscuits. Don’t forget to grab a milkshake (even if it’s for the road). They’re amazing! We recommend trying the horchata shake.
Summer and harvest season means lots of out-of-town tourists and lots of crowds, so we highly recommend getting there early. It gets very busy and the waits can be long. There is a cute trailer in the back that serves up mimosas to make the wait more fun. Going on a weekday is ideal if you can. Last time we did, we walked right in and got a table.
Other things we’ve tried off the menu at other times of year and would recommend are the artichoke fritters, pork butt sandwich, chilaquiles, pimento cheese, biscuits and gravy, mac and cheese, and deviled eggs. You can’t go wrong! If reading this made you hungry and you can’t make it to Sonoma, try this pimento cheese dip, these deviled eggs, and these fritters, and our favorite fried chicken to hold you over!

TIP: If you don’t have time to wait, you can call ahead and get it to go. Depending on what you order, it could make a great picnic.
