One of our favorite things to do on a Saturday morning is head to one of the best farmers markets in the United States. CUESA Saturday farmer’s market is held at the Ferry Building Marketplace from 8am-2pm. We suggest going earlier than later for your visit. You’ll be mingling with some of the top chefs in San Francisco as they purchase their produce from the best local farmers.

Shop seasonally and get to know the farmers. Some of our favorite purveyor’s include K&J Orchards (for stone fruit — they supply restaurants like The French Laundry), Hog Island Oyster Company (bring home your own oysters or have them shucked there), Roli Roti (for their famous porchetta sandwich with onion jam or rotisserie chicken roasted over potatoes – also try our version here), Dirty Girl Produce (for tomatoes, strawberries), Zuckerman’s Farm (known for the best asparagus), and Eat Well (pick up lavender or try their eggs and chickens), Green Gulch (their greens and lux pie pumpkins). For cheese, we recommend stopping by Tomales Bay Creamery (see our visit here) and Point Reyes Farmstead Creamery (see our visit here). Check out some of our favorite Ferry Building regulars here.

Most purveyors only accept cash, but there are two ATM machines inside the Ferry Building, or you can purchase coins from the CUESA tent at the front of the building. Don’t miss the schedule of market to table demonstrations with an array of San Francisco Bay Area Chefs. You may even see a familiar face from cookbooks outside of San Francisco, like Chef Jacque Pepin or Dorie Greenspan.
